PPM Senegal Stands with Families Affected by Duchenne Muscular Dystrophy

In Dakar, PPM Senegal reaffirms its commitment to a more inclusive society and to better support for people living with a rare disease.

On 8 September 2026, at Dalal Jamm Hospital in Dakar, PPM Senegal took part in the 7th edition of World Duchenne Muscular Dystrophy Awareness Day, organised by the Taxawuma Assistance association.

Mr Malick Ndiaye, Sales Manager, represented Ms Coumba Diallo, Director of PPM Senegal, at the event. His presence continues the company’s engagement with the association since the annual awareness day was first launched in 2020.

Bringing together patients, families, healthcare professionals, local authorities and community organisations, the event highlighted the urgent need for appropriate care for rare diseases. Discussions focused on three priorities: shortening diagnostic times, improving day-to-day support for children and their families, and securing lasting engagement from both public authorities and the private sector.

Duchenne muscular dystrophy is a neuromuscular disease that gradually turns the simplest movements into daily challenges. Climbing stairs, moving around or eating can become a real ordeal for those affected. In this context, early diagnosis is critical: it makes it possible to anticipate complications and to better support children throughout their medical, educational and social journey.

During the event, Ms Khadija Mahecor Diouf, Mayor of Golf Sud and Goodwill Ambassador for Taxawuma Assistance, called for concrete measures in favour of the children affected by these conditions. A specific appeal was made for a dedicated facility for their care and for comprehensive support for treatment costs.

Representatives of the authorities and the hospital also reaffirmed their commitment to supporting local initiatives in awareness-raising, guidance and social support. Mr Birahim Aidara Ndiaye, President of Taxawuma Assistance, called on all stakeholders to join forces: every day saved in the diagnostic process and every patient better supported represents a step forward towards greater dignity, autonomy and hope.

Through this participation, PPM Senegal reaffirms that its role goes beyond producing and making medicines available. The company embeds its approach in a broader social responsibility built on inclusion, solidarity and attention to the most vulnerable.

In recognition of this steadfast commitment, Taxawuma Assistance presented Ms Coumba Diallo with an honorary plaque, received on her behalf by Mr Malick Ndiaye. The distinction highlights the enduring partnership between PPM Senegal and the association, and the shared conviction that a rare disease should never lead to isolation or abandonment.
